Perched on a 7-acre hilltop promontory in Sylmar, the site offers expansive views out over the Hansen Dam Recreation area. The clients vision clusters four buildings around a central courtyard. The architect worked to achieve linkages between the four buildings. Pedestrian flow is provided with walkways and aerial bridges. In addition to the 49 units designed for U.S. Veterans, the common areas feature several outdoor decks for relaxation, a communal laundry room, service offices and an area for all the residents to share stories, relax and enjoy their new homes. Off-site work included improvements to area drainage culverts, road widening on Kagel Canyon Street and a frontage sidewalk to make the site safe and accessible.
